Igreja paroquial de vidago
Truly unique, the Parish Church of Vidago (City of Chaves), called Church of Nossa Senhora da Conceição is a neo-medieval building erected in the early forties of the 20th century (between 1940 and 1942), following the model of many churches Romanesque in Northern Portugal. The main drivers of its construction were the then director of the company VM&PS (Vidago, Melgaço & Pedras Salgadas), Dr. Faria de Morais and the parish priest of the village, Father Raimundo Perez. Its construction is also due to financing, mainly from people's donations. The first stone was laid on September 10, 1933, on which land was acquired from the Lima Barreto family for 40,000 escudos. Imitating in detail the Romanesque temples in the provinces of Entre Douro and Minho, it has a façade marked by a portico with three round archivolts decorated with lacework and resting on three pairs of capitalized columns (the tympanum, decorated with an “Agnus Dei”, rests on its once in two bovine heads). The top opens into a wide rose window, containing four rings surrounded by a thick frame of geometric inspiration. Next to the corners, the typical Boréus stand out, which are multiplied on the side elevations; they too in strict Romanesque-Gothic imitation, with their dogs, friezes and windows.
