Culto ao Bacalhau
A local server at a wine bar recommended I try Culto ao Bacalhau for my first bacalhau experience, and I feel like I’ve been spoiled. Fantastic space in the Bolhão, great service, wine selection, and menu. I started with the complimentary bread with choice of olive tapenade (with orange zest, something I’m going to try at home), a pureed chickpea with roasted tomatoes and cod liquor, and pickled carrots. I had a house spumante. The starter I had was the codfish rissole with a fennel mayonnaise. Then for the main course I had a wonderful white wine with the Cabeço de Bacalhau à Lagareiro - charcoal grilled salted cod collar finished confit with olive oil, potatoes, olives, garlic, and onion. It was described as a cod filet mignon, and it was an apt description. I did not have desert as I was too full, but I finished with a warmed aguardiente. They’ve only been open since March, and they have something good going - simple, straightforward menu of dishes cooked with precision, and pride in their service. Highly recommended. I told a few couples at a port wine tasting the next day that they should definitely dine here.
